As a result, it was possible during the closing session to announce the establishment of iiSBE, the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment. iiSBE* will provide a world-wide platform for joint action and information exchange for all organizations, countries and individuals active in the field of sustainable building. iiSBE will also take on some special projects, such as the continuation of the series of SB conferences begun at Maastricht, and the long-term management of the international Green Building Challenge process.
Conclusions of SB2000:: A sustainable agenda operates on scales of materials, buildings, and urban regions, and must also include consideration of functional, social, economic, and ecological factors Strategies for reaching a sustainable built environment must reflect varied regional conditions and priorities, and different models for implementation: think global, act local Industry is starting to take up sustainability as part of mainstream business, however there is a need for a continuous active government involvement in establishing a sustainable built environment We need quantified performance targets to make political commitments meaningful. Performance assessment systems and sustainability indicators can support this. There is need for an international initiative aimed at addressing sustainable construction on the level of materials and materials cycles, including reuse and recycling Recommendations:: CIB is recommended to stimulate further world-wide dissemination of agenda 21 as the basis for debate on sustainable Building including the production of translations. All organisations involved in SB are recommended, next to the global conferences on SB, to initiate regional conferences . CIB is recommended to initiate activities for the further development of: urban issues, SB in developing countries, and social and economical aspects of Sustainability UIA is recommended to initiate activities and improve links between local traditions, citizen requirements for architectural and urban quality, and sustainable building. Organisations like, UIA, IEA, CIB, ASHRAE, Rilem, ACE are recommended to get involved in iiSBE . Outcome of the GBC process should be incorporated in other activities in the areas as within organisations like ISO, CIB, IEA, ISCOWA, Rilem etc SB2002 should give extra attention to urban issues, materials, social and economic issues, and to developing countries.
