Welcome to The EVEN more wonderful World of Thermodynamics II - mech 351
Course overview
In Thermodynamics I, we learned the steps on how to analyze thermodynamic processes. In Thermodynamics II, we will use this knowledge to investigate different energy cycles. The course chapters are summarized as follow:
- Introduction and brief review of Thermodynamics I.
- Vapor and combined power cycles (Rankine).
- Gas power cycles (Brayton, Otto, Diesel).
- Refrigeration cycles.
- Thermodynamic property relations.
- Gas-vapor mixtures and air-conditioning.
- Chemical reactions and phase equilibrium.
Once you are done mastering this course, you should theoretically be able to build your own power plant!

The objective here is to encourage you to create an online design portfolio where you will be posting your design achievements. This will be a very interesting added value when you will be applying for jobs or internships. In thermo II , I will be asking you to post the report for the energy project as well as the material regarding your design for the steam car competition. I also encourage you to add your designs for MECH390 and MECH490, if any. You can use any online free webpage service to create your portfolio (exp: jimdo, wix, weebly ,..). After the steam car competition you will have to send me the link to your design portfolio to get a bonus up to 3%.
