COURSE OUTLINE:

• Review of Random Processes.
• Sampling, Qunatization, Pulse Code Modulation and other Source Coding Techniques.
• Baseband Digital Transmission in Additive White Gaussian Noise Environment.
• Digital Transmission over Bandlimited Channels.
• Optimum Receiver Design, Probability of Error, Multi-level Transmission.
• Digital Modulation Techniques for Passband Transmission.
• Introduction to Information Theory and Error Control Coding.

GRADING SCHEME:

• Assignment 10%.
• Project:          15%.
• Midterm: 25% .
• Final: 50%.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• In order to pass the course, you should get at least 50% in the final.
• Failing to write the midterm results in losing the 25% assigned to the midterm. In the case of a medical emergency, the student may be given the permission to re-write the midterm.
• In the event of extraordinary circumstances beyond the University's control, the content and/or evaluation scheme in this course is subject to change.

Suggested problems are not assignments. You do not need to hand them in. Each report (at most a page) gets 0.5 mark for total of 5 marks provided you hand in 10 reports: Sample report form.
