CO2 capture units may be just as expensive as CO2 conversion units. Consequently, it is essential to create new technologies that use less energy and are less costly than existing processes.

Development of an integrated CO2 capture and utilization process for transportation fuel production

The primary objective of this project is to reduce the energy consumption through the development of a novel integrated stripping CO2 capture system. Hydrogen as the primary stripping agent will be used in this system, and various physical and chemical solvents will be investigated to identify the most promising results. Mourad El Helou is working on this innovative design and his simulation results showed that 50% reduction in the energy demand of the CO2 capture process is achievable.
