Current Research

Development of an integrated CO2 capture and utilization process for transportation fuel production

Research Summary

CCU processes require a substantial amount of energy, therefore various technologies have been developed to reduce the energy consumption and improve the efficiency. However, the requirement of these technologies is still relatively high. Hence, in this project a different modification will be applied to two CCU processes, physical solvent absorption and chemical solvent absorption. A hydrogen stream will be injected in the solvent regeneration column in order to reduce the reboiler’s energy usage in the chemical solvent case and reduce the overall power consumption in the physical solvent case by injecting H2 which acts as a stripping agent in the flash tanks. Afterwards, a techno-economic analysis will be conducted on both cases before sending the CO2+H2 stream to the Fischer-Tropsch unit to produce transportation fuels.
