    COURSE OUTLINE:

    1. Introduction to composite materials (Chapter 1).
    2. Hygro-thermo-mechanical properties of fibers and matrices. (Chapter 3).
    3. Determination of hygro-thermo-mechanical properties of a unidirectional layer using experiments and micro-mechanics (Chapter 3).
    4. Linear elastic stress-strain characteristics of a unidirectional layer (Chapter 2).
    5. Plane-stress stress-strain relations (Chapters 4,5).
    6. Classical lamination theory (Chapters 6,7,8).
    7. Failure theory for fiber-reinforced materials: Maximum stress criterion (Chapter 9).
    8. Failure theory for fiber reinforced materials: Tsai-Wu criterion (Chapter 10) .
    9. Environmentally induced stresses in laminates (Chapter 11).
